Load volume is the one row where we lose outright, and it is left in rather than left out. A board that costs nothing and has nothing on your lane has not saved you money.
The application fee is the real difference at the bottom
Truckstop's entry plan is priced close to ours, and on the monthly figure alone there is not much in it. What separates the two at the bottom of the range is the non-refundable application fee: money paid before you have seen the board, credited against your first month if your application is approved, and not returned if it is not.
That is a defensible policy, it is part of how they keep bad actors out, and fraud in freight is a serious problem. But it does mean the answer to "is there freight on my lane on this board" costs money to find out. Here it costs nothing, because the free tier shows you the board first and asks for a card only if you want alerts to arrive instantly.
Where Truckstop is genuinely the better choice
If you need the widest possible pool of freight, they have it and we do not. If Book It Now is how you prefer to work, pick a load at a posted rate and take it without a call, that feature is theirs and it is good. If you are hauling heavy or specialised freight where they have a dedicated product, that depth is worth paying for. And if you are a brokerage that wants a full risk and compliance stack alongside the board, that is a category we are not in.
None of that is us being polite. A carrier who switches to a smaller board and cannot find freight has not saved money, and we would rather say so here than have you find out in a month.
Where the money actually goes
The structural difference is who pays. Truckstop charges carriers to search and brokers to post, with a further charge to promote a load above the others. We charge carriers a flat subscription for speed, and nothing else, brokers and shippers post free, permanently, with no promoted placement to buy. Every load ranks the same way for everyone, because there is no mechanism to pay for it not to.
